Living in Willamette Valley
The Willamette Valley is where most Oregonians live. Salem offers state government jobs, healthcare (Salem Health, Kaiser), and a family-friendly pace. Eugene is a college town (University of Oregon) with a strong arts culture. Corvallis (Oregon State University) ranks highly for quality of life and walkability. The valley floor is agricultural — wine grapes, berries, hazelnuts, Christmas trees — and housing remains relatively affordable compared to Portland. Each major city has local transit; the Valley Connector bus links many communities.
Visiting Willamette Valley
The valley is Oregon's premier wine destination, with more than 700 wineries producing world-class Pinot Noir. Oregon Garden (Silverton), Silver Falls State Park (“Trail of Ten Falls”), Oregon Country Fair in Veneta, whitewater rafting on the McKenzie River, and Crater Lake day trips from Eugene are all popular. The coast is 60–90 minutes west.
